General
- Parkinson’s UK – great place to start looking for any information, their “Benefits” page has lots of practical advice for people of working age. Their helpline is really useful too.
- Carers Oxfordshire – advice and information for carers provided by Oxfordshire County Council.
- Age UK – more than just information for the elderly. This is now aimed at over 50′s and so has lots of general information for working age people and carers.
Benefits
- DLA – Disabled persons living allowance. There is a care and a mobility component of this and this benefit is not means tested.
- Access to work – government department dedicated to helping people stay in work if they are affected by bad health or disability.
- Prescription pre-payment certificate – you may be able to save money on prescrirption charges by purchasing one of these.
Travel
- Disabled Persons railcard – a third off most rail fares with this card.
- Blue badge scheme – parking badge for disabled persons.
- Free road tax for blue badge holders – you may be eligable for this if you have a blue badge.
Sport and Leisure
- OXRAD – An Integrated Sports and Leisure centre in North Oxford with an adapted gym and a hydrotherapy room. Very reasonable membership rates.
